Dragon Trail coming in 2027!
Get ready for Trail of the Dragons, set to take flight across Wolverhampton in summer 2027 with a spectacular trail of 30 breathtaking uniquely designed dragon sculptures.
Trail of the Dragons is a large-scale public art event taking flight across Wolverhampton from 5 July – 5 September 2027, supporting Compton Care’s 45th anniversary year.

The Trail
The nine-week trail invites residents, visitors and tourists to explore Wolverhampton, increasing footfall, boosting the local economy and creating a shared moment of civic pride. An app and trail map will make it fun for all the family to meet all our amazing dragons!
Hatchlings!
Alongside the large dragons, over 30 smaller baby dragon sculptures (hatchlings!) – decorated by local schools and community groups – will be displayed in indoor locations, bringing our communities together in a creative and inspiring way.
Raising funds for Compton Care
At the end of the trail, all sculptures will be auctioned, raising vital funds to support Compton Care’s specialist palliative and bereavement services.


Exploring the Trail
Designed to be explored at your own pace, the fully accessible trail can be completed in an epic single adventure or spread out over multiple days.
While the exact route is still being finalised, the trail will take you to well-known locations across Wolverhampton, offering a fresh perspective on the city’s streets, parks, and landmarks.
A printed trail map will be available to guide you, and an interactive app will add an extra layer of fun – track your steps, collect rewards from local businesses, and challenge yourself to find every magnificent dragon along the way!

Farewell Event
As the journey draws to a close, all the dragon sculptures will be brought together for a special farewell event. It’s your final chance to see them gathered in one place before they spread their wings and head off to their forever homes.

The Auction

A Lasting Legacy
At the end of the summer, each dragon will spread its wings one final time at a special auction event, where the sculptures will find permanent new homes. Every dragon sold will help raise essential funds, supporting Compton Care’s work across Wolverhampton and the Black Country.
